Terrorist Attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney

Sydney, Australia. An antisemitic terrorist attack occurred on Sunday at Bondi Beach in Sydney during the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah. A civilian's heroic action stood out, as he disarmed one of the terrorists who was firing a long-barreled weapon. Video shows the man approaching the aggressor from behind without being seen and immobilizing him, managing to take his weapon and point it back at the attacker. It appears the civilian had no prior experience with firearms, as after subduing the terrorist, he raised his hand to call the police while the aggressor fled the scene. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident occurred in the morning when two armed men "shot dead at least 10 people and injured 29 others". Authorities also confirmed the existence of eleven other injured, including two police officers. The other attacker, according to local media, was located on a pedestrian bridge just a few meters away. Although Australian authorities "have not yet directly linked the event to the Hanukkah celebration", Israeli President Isaac Herzog denounced a "vile terrorist attack against the Jews who were lighting the first Hanukkah candles on Bondi Beach". Israel's far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, linked the attack to the Australian government's decision to recognize the Palestinian state, accusing that "the hands of the Australian government are stained with the blood of the murdered". A witness, identified as Vlad, told the same medium that "more than 50 shots" were fired in five minutes and detailed that there were "dozens of bodies" around him.

The country's Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, issued a statement expressing regret over the "shocking and distressing scenes" coming from Bondi and convened an urgent meeting of his security cabinet.
