Australian driver Oscar Piastri achieved his fourth victory of the season by winning the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, which allowed him to increase his lead in the championship. Piastri, who started fourth on the grid, showed impressive pace by overtaking Dutchman Max Verstappen, who had secured pole position, on lap 14. The podium was completed by British drivers Lando Norris and George Russell, while Verstappen finished in fourth place.
"This victory fills me with joy. The team did an incredible job and the car performed perfectly. It was a very intense race, but I'm happy to have been able to overtake Verstappen and take the victory," expressed Piastri after the race.
With this victory, Piastri reached 131 points in the championship, extending his lead over Norris, his closest challenger, by 16 points. Verstappen, meanwhile, is third in the championship with 99 points, closely followed by Russell with 93, who continues to demonstrate great consistency in his performance.
In a challenging weekend, Verstappen failed to score points in the sprint race and finished in fourth place in the main race despite starting from pole position. This situation caused him to lose ground in the championship battle, falling behind Piastri and Norris.
Further back in the overall standings are Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, as well as Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli. Leclerc is in fifth place with 53 points, followed by Antonelli with 48 and Hamilton in eighth place with 41 points.
