Alcaraz and Zverev Reach Australian Open Semi-finals

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (ATP No. 1) and German Alexander Zverev (ATP No. 3) advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open following their respective wins over Australian Alex de Minaur (ATP No. 6) and American Learner Tien (ATP No. 25).

The first to take to the court was Zverev, who defeated Tien 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1, 7-6(3) in a match that lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes. This victory marked Zverev's fourth career appearance in the Australian Open semi-finals, having reached the final only once before, in 2025. The German, currently ranked third in the ATP, came into the match having defeated Canadian Gabriel Diallo, Frenchman Alexandre Müller, Briton Cameron Norrie (No. 26), and Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo (No. 18), dropping a set in all but his match against the Argentine.

Next up was Alcaraz, the current world No. 1, who continues his perfect run in Australia this year. On this occasion, the tennis prodigy overwhelmed local favorite de Minaur with a commanding 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 victory. The match lasted just 2 hours and 15 minutes, with any suspense confined to the first set. This significant win allows the 22-year-old Alcaraz to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the first time, where he is seeking the title that would make him the youngest player in the Open Era to win all four Grand Slam titles.

In the first semi-final, Serbian Novak Djokovic (No. 4) will face Italian Lorenzo Musetti (No. 5), while later, Italian Jannik Sinner (No. 2) will have a dangerous encounter with American Ben Shelton (No. 8).

Regarding the women's draw of the season's first Grand Slam, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (No. 1) and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (No. 12) secured their places in the final four. According to the Argentine News Agency, Sabalenka comfortably defeated American Iva Jovic (No. 29) 6-3, 6-0, while Svitolina dealt a decisive blow by defeating American Coco Gauff (No. 3) 6-1, 6-2.
