The Alpine team is on the hunt for its best driver for the upcoming Formula 1 season. While Argentine Franco Colapinto has emerged as a viable option to replace Australian Jack Doohan in the team, the final decision is not confirmed, as names like Ryo Hirakawa and Paul Aron are also being considered as reserve drivers.
The start of the Formula 1 season is scheduled from March 14 to 16 in Australia, and the competition for seats in Alpine is in full swing. Team principal Oliver Oakes raised expectations by not ruling out the possibility of Colapinto taking Doohan's place in the team.
During a press conference in Bahrain, Oakes supported comments made by Flavio Briatore, Alpine's advisor, who stated that Doohan will start the season alongside Pierre Gasly. However, Oakes left the door open for changes in the lineup as the races progress.
"We're here to compete. We want the best driver in the car, the best engine in the car... Flavio said it, we're starting the season with Jack and Pierre and then we'll see how it all goes," Oakes pointed out.
It seems Doohan will have a challenging path in his first year in Formula 1, due to certain discrepancies with Briatore. Uncertainty prevails at Alpine regarding who will occupy the second seat, but the internal competition promises to be intense in pursuit of achieving optimal results on the track.
