Mother and Daughter Discover World's Largest Coral Reef

A scientific research team, consisting of a mother and daughter, has discovered the world's largest known coral reef, located off the coast of Australia in the Great Barrier Reef. This reef stretches for approximately 111 meters, roughly the length of a football field, and covers an area of about 4,000 square meters, according to a statement from the 'Citrizens of the Reef' environmental organization. These figures mean that this reef is 'one of the most significant coral formations ever recorded in the Great Barrier Reef' and 'the largest documented coral reef in the world,' according to the organization. The coral reef was discovered late last year by Sophie Kalkovsky Pop, a marine operations coordinator for the organization, and her mother Jean Pop, an experienced diver and underwater photographer, according to the American CNN network. The mother had dived at the site a week earlier and realized she had seen something special. Therefore, the duo returned with measurement equipment.
