Australia and Indonesia Reach New Security Agreement

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Wednesday during a press conference in Sydney with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto that the two countries have reached an agreement on a new security treaty. This treaty obligates the neighboring nations to consult in the event of a threat to either country's security. Albanese added that the treaty is a significant extension of previous security agreements and also includes a commitment to hold regular security dialogues between the leaders. He further stated: 'If the security of either or both countries is threatened, consultations will be held and measures to be taken individually or jointly to counter those threats will be considered.' Albanese added that Indonesia and Australia have realized that working together is the best way to ensure peace and stability in the region.
