In the first qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix, McLaren surprised by meeting expectations and dominating the track at the Melbourne circuit. The first to be eliminated were Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon from Haas, Liam Lawson from Red Bull, Nico Hulkenberg from Sauber, and Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes.
In the second qualifying phase, the eliminated drivers were Bortoleto from Sauber, Jack Doohan from Alpine, Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin, and Isack Hadjar from Racing Bulls. The stage was led by Oscar Piastri from McLaren, showing great performance on the track.
The final qualifying session was very competitive, and the top 10 for the grid of the Grand Prix was defined at the last moment. Lando Norris from McLaren took the pole position, closely followed by his teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen from Red Bull, who managed to secure third place.
