Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (ranked No. 1) became the new Australian Open champion after a great final victory over Serbian Novak Djokovic (ranked No. 4). At just 22 years old, Alcaraz won 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 after 3 hours and 2 minutes of play. The match started much better for Djokovic, who had a perfect first set, easily overpowering his opponent to win comfortably 6-2. From there, the Serbian began to commit many unforced errors, a situation that Alcaraz capitalized on to break his serve twice and take the second set with a solid 6-3. The third set was practically a carbon copy of the second, as Djokovic continued to chain many unforced errors, while Alcaraz was getting more and more confident. This allowed the Spaniard to break his opponent's serve twice again and win the third set 6-3. In the final set, Djokovic had a very good reaction and stayed in the game at all times. He even had a break point to go up 5-4 and serve, but he made another unforced error and saw that chance disappear. Finally, Alcaraz secured the break that gave him victory in the twelfth game, sealing the definitive 7-5, after just over three hours of play. This title allowed Alcaraz to become the youngest player to win all four Grand Slams (the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open), at 22 years and 272 days, surpassing the record of American Don Budge, who had done it at 22 years and 363 days. This was Alcaraz's seventh Grand Slam title, having previously won the US Open 2022 and 2025, Wimbledon 2023 and 2024, and Roland Garros 2024 and 2025. On his way to the final, Alcaraz had previously defeated Australian Adam Walton, German Yannick Hanfmann, Frenchman Corentin Moutet (32nd), American Tommy Paul (19th), Australian Alex de MiƱaur (6th), and German Alexander Zverev (3rd). Djokovic, for his part, showed that despite the defeat, he is still at the level of the best in the world and that he still has fuel in the tank to continue fighting for his 25th Grand Slam title at almost 39 years old.
