
British driver Lando Norris (McLaren) secured pole position in the Australian Grand Prix, marking the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Norris, the world runner-up from the previous year, achieved a time of 1:15.096, beating his teammate, Australian Oscar Piastri, by just 84 thousandths of a second. Dutch four-time champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull will start third on the grid with a time of 1:15.481. Among the surprises in qualifying, Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda stood out in fifth place with his Racing Bulls, as well as Williams drivers, Thai Alexander Albon and Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr., who secured positions in Q3 and will start from sixth and tenth respectively. Pierre Gasly (Alpine) will start from ninth position. On the other hand, Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton had a modest qualifying, starting seventh and eighth. In contrast, debutants Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) and Liam Lawson (Red Bull) did not make it past Q1 and will start from the back of the grid.
