The Formula 1 world champion, Max Verstappen from Red Bull, admitted today that his team is not the fastest ahead of the first race of the season in Melbourne, Australia, and pointed out that there are aspects they wish to improve.
In a press conference before the 2025 Grand Prix, Verstappen expressed optimism, although he acknowledged that they are not the favorites. "I know we are not the fastest, but many things can change quickly in Formula 1," the Dutch driver emphasized regarding the competition this season.
Verstappen mentioned that his car has improved in terms of handling, although he is not sure if the issues from last season have been fully resolved. He recalled that last year he had to retire from the race in Melbourne due to a brake failure, allowing Carlos Sainz to take the victory.
Despite Sainz setting the fastest time in pre-season testing in Bahrain, Verstappen pointed out that the Melbourne track is different and it's too early to predict the performance of the cars. "We will see this weekend and later on, we'll try to do our best," he concluded.
"Positive, I guess. There are still things we want to improve, but we are taking it step by step," added the Formula 1 world champion.
