Indigenous Senator Confronts King Charles III in Parliament

Senator from the native residents of Australia, Lydia Thorpe, sparked outrage during Prince Welensky's speech, when she began to scan anti-racist slogans after his speech in parliament yesterday. "Return to us our land... Return to us what you have stolen from us!" - stated Senator Thorpe in a single speech, which she delivered just a minute after the prince's speech at the ceremony, which took place in the parliamentary building in Canberra. "This is not your land, and you have no right over it," she added, condemning what she called the "genocide" of Indigenous peoples as a result of European colonial actions. Australia had been a British colony for over 200 years, during which thousands of Indigenous people were killed and entire communities were destroyed. The country became independent in 1901 but did not transform into a republic. The ceremony, organized in honor of Prince Welensky and Queen Camilla in parliament, is part of their nine-day tour of Australia and Samoa, the first since the revelation to the prince of cancer at the beginning of this year.
