Canberra expressed protest against China on Thursday, confirming that one of its destroyers acted "dangerously" in the South China Sea, releasing flares shortly after an Australian military aircraft.
In a statement from the Australian government, it was said that "Australian aircraft are exposed to dangerous airborne intercepts in close proximity to Australian aviation structures, violating treaties on the prevention of incidents in the air and international aviation law."
The Australian Defense Minister noted in his statement that "such behavior poses a serious threat to global and regional stability and provokes a sense of concern in the dimensions of China."
He also added that the Australian government expressed protest to the Chinese embassy in Canberra in connection with this incident and also summoned the Chinese ambassador for clarification.
