Victoria Introduces Right to Work from Home Law

The Australian state of Victoria announced yesterday that it will introduce new legislation granting employees a legal right to work from home two days a week. The new laws, set to take effect on September 1, will allow any employee capable of performing their duties from home to exercise this right, regardless of their employer's size. Victoria's Premier, Jacinta Allan, stated in a statement yesterday: 'Working from home benefits families by saving time and money and allows more parents to work.' The legislation will be presented to the state parliament in July. The new laws will also include a dispute resolution mechanism, and workplaces with fewer than 15 employees will have until July 2027 to comply with this legislation, which aims to promote work-life balance.
