Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, began restricting access to its platforms to users under 16 in Australia on Thursday, a company spokesperson confirmed to EFE.
The company detailed that, starting this December 4, it will begin removing access to its social media for teenagers under 16 and expects to complete the process by December 10, when a new law comes into effect in the oceanic country to restrict access for children and adolescents.
During this period, minors will be able to preserve and download their digital history on the three platforms.
"While the company is committed to complying with the law, we consider it necessary to have a more standardized and privacy-respectful approach," a Meta spokesperson told EFE.
