Maximize Comfort on Your Next Flight

Choosing the right place on the plane can make all the difference for a comfortable journey. These views offer a fresh perspective on how strategic seat selection and polite behavior can enhance your flight experience, and if you are lucky, they may even secure you an upgrade!

Rosie Avad, a senior member of Virgin Australia's airline team with ten years of experience, shares her top picks for seats and places she strives to avoid during the flight as a passenger. For Rosie, the best seat is row 5 by the window. She also notes that seat 1R, utilized by crew members, may feel cramped due to the direct sightlines in the surrounding area and sometimes creates an effect of 'lack of privacy.' Additionally, another senior member, Sierra Mist, recently shared tips on how passengers can secure themselves upgrades to first class. Sierra also explains that passengers sitting in the rear section can move forward if the plane is not full.

Rosie points out that the rear row and seats near toilets are often the least desired due to limited access to recline, passing traffic from passenger foot traffic, and proximity to the back of the toilets. "You can enjoy the view from the window, a additional seat for your things, and you are not obliged to be near emergency exits," says Rosie. Her advice also includes maintaining a friendly attitude towards crew members, as simple gestures, such as snack offerings, can go a long way. "This is ideal," she explains.
