Syrian Ahmad Ahmad, credited with saving lives by disarming one of the attackers during a shooting on Bondi Beach in Australia, has received a check worth over 2.5 million Australian dollars (1.65 million US dollars) following a massive online donation campaign involving tens of thousands of people. Ahmad took cover behind parked cars before pouncing on one of the armed attackers from behind, disarming him and throwing the weapon to the ground, but he was shot by the second attacker and was hospitalized for surgery. Ahmad received the large check from social media influencer and one of the organizers of the 'Go Fund Me' page, Zachary Derinowski, while lying in his hospital bed at St. George Hospital. More than 43,000 people from around the world contributed to the fundraising effort. The Australian Prime Minister and the state Premier visited Ahmad in the hospital to commend his bravery. In a video, Ahmad is seen accepting the check and asking, 'Do I deserve this?', to which Derinowski replied, 'Every cent'. Two armed men killed 15 people and injured dozens more on Sunday when they opened fire on people celebrating the Jewish festival of Hanukkah on the famous Bondi Beach.
