New South Wales to Test Glowing Roads to Reduce Accidents

The Australian state of New South Wales plans to create a glowing roads project after a six-month experiment showed that glowing highway lines help reduce accidents. According to a statement from a New South Wales Transport official, the most populous state in Australia, applying glowing markings over 200 meters on the famous Polly Pass led to a 67% reduction in nighttime collisions. The glowing road signs absorb sunlight during the day and then emit it at night. It is also said that this coating is suitable for bike paths, sidewalks, airport runways, parking lots, and places with limited lighting. Polly Pass was chosen for the experiment due to its rugged terrain and sharp bends, as data showed it had 125 accidents in the 12 months leading up to June 30, 2024.
