Tropical Cyclone Koji Leaves Thousands Without Power in Queensland

In Australia's northeastern Queensland state, thousands of people were left without power on Sunday after a tropical cyclone hit the coast, bringing heavy rains and powerful winds. The country's meteorological authority reported that Cyclone Koji, a Category 1 system, made landfall between the towns of Ayr and Bowen, approximately 500 kilometers north of Brisbane, the state capital. It then weakened and was downgraded to a tropical low. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli stated that around 15,000 individuals experienced power outages. The authority added that the storm, accompanied by winds of up to 95 km/h and torrential rain, struck coastal towns, including Mackay, a tourist hub and gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
