Couple Fined $6,000 After Thief Wasn't Wearing Seatbelt in Their Stolen Car

An Australian couple from the Gold Coast, Leila and Hamid, were victims of a burglary during which their Lexus car was stolen. While they were asleep, masked intruders broke into their home, stole valuables, and fled in their car. According to Hamid, the thieves had Leila's car key and tried to enter the bedroom to find other keys. After the theft, Hamid chased them, called the police, but officers arrived only three weeks later. Instead, the couple received a fine of 6,258 Australian dollars because one of the thieves was not wearing a seatbelt. Hamid expressed his outrage: "How can these cameras fine us, but fail to capture license plate numbers and prevent thieves from driving the car?" The family said the ordeal has affected them deeply, especially their seven-year-old daughter, who was present during the burglary.
