Czech Tomas Machac wins ATP 250 title in Adelaide

Czech tennis player Tomas Machac won the title at the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide, defeating French player Ugo Humbert in the final. The 25-year-old Machac, for whom this victory was the second of his ATP career, won 6-4, 6-7(2), and 6-2 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes. Machac was able to gain the advantage in the main thanks to the effectiveness of his serve, as it was broken only once during the first set. According to the Argentine News Agency, thanks to this great week, Machac will rise 11 positions in the rankings and climb to number 24 in the ATP rankings, arriving with sky-high confidence for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season, which begins this same weekend. Humbert, for his part, rose three positions and will be in thirty-third place in the next ATP ranking update. Although he is far from his best historical position, which was 13th, he had a great week that allows him to compete again in the top positions of the world ranking. On his way to the grand final, Machac had previously defeated Australian James Duckworth (6-3 and 6-3), Frenchman Quentin Halys (6-4 and 6-2), Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-4 and 6-4), and American Tommy Paul (2-6, 6-3 and 6-3). This week leading up to the Australian Open was very good for Czech tennis, as at the Auckland Open in New Zealand, Jakub Mensik also became champion, defeating Argentine Sebastian Baez in the final, who had a perfect start to the season and had accumulated seven consecutive wins. In his next challenge, which will be the Australian Open, Machac will not have it easy, as he will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the first round.
